Discrimination in a Texas Company

As of recent, a federal judge has mandated that a lawyer in Houston will monitor an East Texas Company known as Lufkin Industries due to complaints that have risen in regards to discrimination against black employees. Tony P. Rosenstein from the Houston firm will investigate the incident at hand as well as look into complaints filed by black Lufkin employees. Lufkin Industries constructs oil field equipment and industrial gearboxes. “The appointment was detailed in an injunction issued Friday by US District Judge Ron Clark of Beaumont as part of the resolution of black workers’ class-action lawsuit against Lufkin Industries.” When asked to comment, Lufkin’s President declined all motions. The Court ruled in June of last year that $5.5 million (in back pay and interest) will be paid to Lufkin’s black employees and that the company had acted unlawfully in regards to discrimination in awarding promotions.
