A Connecticut jury awards Auto Body Association of Connecticut, $15 million in their lawsuit accusing an affiliate of The Hartford Financial Services Group of unfair trade practices. The automobile shop owners have been in dispute over appraisals and labor costs with The Financial Services Group for six years now. The Auto Body Association said the insurers’ labor rates were artificially low and Hartford discouraged the use of independent appraisers in favor of its own appraisers. The unfair trade practices allowed Hartford Financial, to control all aspects of the car repairs”.
State Attorney General Richard Blumenthal says appraisers should not be influenced by insurance companies. The Financial Group has stated that they plan to appeal the verdict.
