The Consumer Product Safety Commission announced that a total of 11 babies have died due to the defective Simplicity cribs. The most recent death involved a seven-month-old child who was trapped in the crib when it unexpectedly broke due to the faulty plastic hardware. The cribs were manufactured with faulty plastic that broke or warped in many cases, causing the drop-side of the crib to break or detach, which created a suffocation risk for the babies. The agency announced the new death tally with another reminder to parents about the dangers of Simplicity Cribs. The agency warns parents to make sure they have not purchased a recalled Simplicity crib and if the case arises that they have purchased one of these defective cribs; it is advised that they stop using it immediately.
