Estate of Collins v. Long Island Railroad Co.

David Collins was fatally struck and killed by a train, while supervising a work crew on the Long Island Rail Road in New York. The railroad agreed to settle the lawsuit by paying $500,000 to the family of Mr. Collins. The estate lawyers contended that the railroad knew that the crew was in the area working and that the driver of the train should have reduced its speed. The railroad contended that workers were being monitored and men were out signaling oncoming approaching trains.
