Starting in 2010, many window stickers will appear in vehicles that feature an overall safety rating that includes the frontal, side, and rollover tests that have been conducted. The upgrade will promote new tests as well as a new rating process used by the federal government. Also, instead of using male – figure dummies only in crash testing, female dummies will be used as well as a new side pole test that shows how a vehicle will hold up when it strikes a tree. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration have made changes to the New Car Assessment Program that includes a differentiation between a vehicle’s performance and the overall rating of which vehicle is safer. Consumer Unions (CU) agree with the new female dummy idea. CU stated that, “The addition of a small female dummy will enable the tests to better represent a broad range of body types, specifically addressing women and larger children.” In the year of 2014, it is reported that most cars should meet these new safety regulations.
