In addition to the requirement of blood specimen, DNA collection is being added to the Bill. S.B. 727 states that those sentenced to the Texas Department of Corrections or the Texas Youth Commission for a probation case or those deferred for a criminal offense must provide a compilation of DNA samples through court order to the judge. H.B. 2932 requires DPS to gather and distribute information in which DNA results may be useful in an offense against a defendant, showing whether or not the defendant is guilty.
