A group of highway contract workers has been ordered by the court to pay a fine of $10.2 million in damages to the family of a worker who was killed in an accident. In the case, plaintiff’s lawyers argue that the contractors were careless in allowing a group of workers to ride on an open flat bed trailer and did not warn them to wear a required hard hat. Mr. Jay Soots fell from the trailer and soon after, died. The contractors who have been sued are planning on appealing the verdict.
