Type 2 diabetes is the most common form of diabetes which occurs in individuals whose bodies don’t properly produce or use insulin. While there is no cure for diabetes, there are prescription medications available to help people manage diabetes. Drug maker GlaxoSmithKline’s Avandia (generically known as rosiglitazone maleate) has been prescribed to treat millions of diabetic patients across the United States. Avandia is designed to treat type-2 diabetes, and works by helping the body use its own natural insulin to better control blood sugar levels. However, despite its effectiveness at regulating type-2 diabetes, some studies have shown that the Avandia drug can put patients at risk of developing serious, potentially fatal side effects. These include: symptoms of liver problems (nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain, excessive fatigue, appetite loss, yellowing of the skin, dark urine), symptoms of heart problems (rapid increase or decrease in weight, shortness of breath, chest pain), or hypoglycemia symptoms (headache, dizziness, fast heartbeat, sweating, tremors, and weakness).
