H.R. 2406 was signed and put into effect just recently at the beginning of 2009. This bill is to provide for improved Federal, State, and local assistance in the enforcement of immigration laws, to modify the Immigration and Nationality Act, as well as to carry out the State Criminal Alien Assistance Program to consent to appropriations and other purposes. This act gives full authority to state and local law enforcement to assist in the enforcement of U.S. immigration laws. This bill provides personal liability immunity to the equivalent extent as a corresponding federal immunity for state or local enforcement enforcing immigration laws within the limits of their duties.
